THE SITE
The proposed location for this project is on the Tregony Playing Field, off Back Lane. It is a sloping grassfield area with treeline to the Southwest, hedgeline to the Southeast and pétanque boulodrome to the Northeast.
OUR DESIGN IDEA
The facility comprises two main areas; The Street Area and The Miniramp. All routes around this facility are designed to link up when it's quiet, conversely, they can be used as separate, independent areas when the park is busy. Subtly segregating the space into different zones will enable larger numbers of people to use the space at the same time, safely. This facility has not been diluted in terms of features, flowlines and rolling space. Both spaces will provide challenges for riders who are keen to attempt more technically difficult tricks on the elements within the design. In our experience, local riders will quickly progress to a level where they can enjoy the whole space. We would not recommend designing a facility that runs the risk of becoming dull or unchallenging over time.
THE STREET AREA
This design has been inspired by the information provided in the tender and our previous site visit. We have created a fun, low-level street run that extends into the greenspace at either side of the site. Twin quarterpipes (08, 10) provide riders with speed and flow when sessioning the features in the centre of the space. The street features benefit from ample roll-up and roll-out. They can be ridden both ways, whether you ride regular or goofy. The ledge setup is designed for grinds and tailslides, the manual is a low-level platform designed for technical manoeuvres up and off the block.
The manual is connected to the miniramp platform with an up-and-over driveway style ledge to maintain the flow.
THE MINIRAMP
The Miniramp drops down from the main street run working with the topography of the site. At either end of the mini are two rollin flatbanks that direct riders into super fun hipped quarterpipes. The hipped quarters at either end of the mini allow both goofy and regular riders to session the ramp. The hips converge to form a superwide miniramp with long sections of grindable coping, perfect for airs and coping manoeuvres. The ramp opposite the hips curves round to create two bowled quarters that can be sessioned with tricks into the bank or up onto the higher section of coping.
This style of miniramp provides a super fun, inter-connected space off the main run of the park, accessible to all. Miniramps form the backbone of some of the most successful facilities throughout the UK.
