Cobham. You showed up.
Hundreds and hundreds of people came together yesterday to celebrate the opening of your new skatepark. Riders, families, friends and the people who had spent years working towards this moment. Seeing it so well supported meant a lot.
Behind that afternoon were years of planning and persistence. Not taking the many Nos for an answer. A community that saw its old skatepark fall into disrepair and knew its young people deserved better.
Huge respect to Martin Elbourne and the Cobham Village Partnership, the skatepark steering group, Cobham and Downside Residents’ Association, and the local riders and families who helped move this project forward. To Elmbridge Borough Council and Surrey County Council for backing it and providing the funding to make it happen. And to everyone who gave their time, shared ideas, donated or kept pushing.
We’ve been honoured to work alongside you, turning those ideas into a concrete park shaped by the people who will ride it. Yesterday was the moment all that work became something you could really feel.
A place to find your feet, find your people and spend hours doing something you love. Free to use, with room for a new generation to make its own memories.
Thank you to every rider and supporter cheering from the sidelines who made the opening jam what it was.
For everyone who put so much into getting here, we hope you had a moment yesterday to stand back and take it all in like the local skater stood on the ramp with her eyes closed, who said "With my eyes closed I see the old Cobham park but when I open them, our new skatepark is here, I can't believe it!"
““It was fantastic to see so many people enjoying the new skatepark. This is a great example of a community-led project that will give young people a high-quality, inclusive space to be active, develop new skills and spend time with friends for years to come.””
